STR²EAM Blog 4 Critique and Analyzing Educational Materials 1. The Toy Association STEM/STEAM Strategic Leadership Report. I rate this article 3 out of 5. First, the article clearly explains how STEM/STEAM concepts are related to toys and play. In the article, I learned that play is not defined in regards to single identifying characteristics but concerning the confluence of factors related to attitude and motivation. Second, the article helped to understand the common misconceptions and myths about STEM/STEAM. Some of these misconceptions include life being math less, Math can be compared to Brussels sprouts, memorization is needed when studying science subjects like chemistry and biology, STEM needs to be taught on tracks, and lastly, play is only necessary for kids ( The Toys Association,2018). Third, in the article, I learned several things recommended by the committee on STEM /STEAM. For example, the committee recommends kids have role models to help them imagine themselves a...

STR2EAM Blog 3   Influences of Block Play on Academic Learning in Preschool by Kelsey Rasmuson I rate this article 4 out of 5. In this article, I have learned several things about the impacts of block play on learning. For example, block play helps to improve mathematical and literacy skills. Additionally, block play is a social phenomenon where learners can develop vocabulary and language skills. The article has taught me that students must use language and spatial awareness when placing blocks. Moreover, the article helps me to learn how symbolic representation helps students understand that ideas and objects stand for something new, just like written words (Rasmuson,2019). As a preschool teacher, I will develop solid block play to allow students to engage in the sustained block to create mathematical and literacy skills.    The Teacher's Role in Block Play | Foundations of Learning Series I rate this video 4 out of 5😀😀😀😀.  After listening to thi...

Ericka Ravenel Str3am  What is ramp provocation? Ramp provocations are activities set by kindergarten teachers to respond to children's ideas and interests. Notably, teachers set ramp provocations to allow children to test, practice and construct their theories and concepts taught in the classroom. Ramp provocation encourages kids to experience the world through open-ended activities without necessarily being guided by their educators. Ramps materials provide some exciting challenges for kids of all ages and levels of development (Zan & Geiken, 2010). One of the valuable aspects of ramp provocation is how it addresses curriculum activities. For example, children use spatial reasoning in mathematics by deciding where to place blocks and aligning ramp sections. Children also learn how to use angles since marbles turn corners. In this case, children count blocks, compare their height, and predict the required number. What STR2EAM concept areas are covered in Ramps and Pathwa...
